Handmade Artistic
Lighting
Luciernaga was born from a simple but powerful belief: light should do more than illuminate a room — it should illuminate our relationship with nature, our spaces, and ourselves. Every piece we create is a testament to sustainability, craftsmanship, and emotional connection.

Lighting Inspired by Nature
Every material that pases through this studio carries a memory before it carries light.
These are not salvaged remnants — they are custodians of time, each bearing the quiet dignity of a previous life, waiting to be recognized and made radiant once more.
A Transformative Process
Alejandro Figueroa, sculptor and founder, was trained in the tradition of fine arts, where matter is never merely matter; it is the language through which intention speaks.
Â
In his hands, reclaimed wood, aged metal, and worn glass are not evidence of decay — they are the very beauty that decay reveals.
Â
To bring one of these pieces into your home is to welcome a living light: something between memory and becoming, suspended like a firefly caught in amber dusk, holding its glow with quiet purpose.

This pieces were not manufactured. They were listened to, coaxed into form, and completed only when it was ready — because at Luciérnaga, light is not a product. It is a promise.

The Designer
I was born in Colombia, raised in my father’s workshop among wood shavings and the hum of machines. I learned to work with wood before I learned to ride a bike. The smell of fresh-cut lumber is home.

Purists might disagree, but I don't believe materials should hide their scars. I want them to speak, revealing their past lives, wounds, and beauty. Covering that up feels like silencing them.
My father approached wood with a devotion to perfection, using colored pencils to blend grain lines into seamless joints. I admire that discipline, but my path is different. I rescue forgotten objects left on the curb and let them tell me what they want to become. These materials guide me toward singular, unrepeatable works that honor the stories embedded in their surfaces.

Later, while studying sculpture at Los Andes University, I learned to listen to materials even more closely. I saw forms trapped inside rigid lines we humans use to limit everything, and began freeing them, allowing shapes to reassert their organic identity through authenticity rather than rigidity.
I went on to open a furniture and design studio in Colombia, collaborating with artisans and filling a gallery in Bogotá with our creations. After moving to the United States, I built a parallel career in Human Resources—a field far from sculpture, but one that provided the stability to return to my craft with renewed purpose. In 2026, I founded Luciernaga Design Studio.

Why lighting? Because light is revelation. It unveils nature, space, emotion, and the quiet presence of the material itself.
Why sustainability? Because wood is miraculous. Minerals and metals exist across the cosmos, but wood exists only here—born of life, water, sunlight, evolution and time. It is a biological treasure. Luciernaga honors this rarity through responsible sourcing, reuse, and preservation.

We create pieces that illuminate more than just space. They honor memory, material history, and the resilience of objects that have lived other lives—a balance of sustainability, craftsmanship, and emotional resonance that invites you to find beauty in what was once overlooked.
